Trump Claims Building a Washington D.C. Triumphal Arch Is Domestic Policy Chief's 'Primary Focus'.
Amid concerns over a worsening cost-of-living issue, Donald Trump disclosed that his domestic policy chief is mainly tasked with constructing a victory monument for the nation's capital.
White House Event Revelation
Speaking at a White House holiday party, Trump lauded Vince Haley, his ex-advisor who now chairs the White House Domestic Policy Council.
“Vince is unbelievable on policy,” Trump remarked. “And we have a policy initiative that’s going to be unbelievable taking place.”
The specifics of that project could indeed be hard to fathom for many people having difficulty to pay their bills.
Specifics of the 'Arc' Project
“I put Vince in charge of the triumphal arc,” Trump declared, using the European word for arch. “We’re building an arch, like the Arc de Triumph,” the president added, blending English and French.
“It will be located by the Memorial Bridge, the Arlington cemetery, across from the Lincoln Memorial. You could say, Thomas Jefferson, Washington, everything, ‘cause they are all right there,” Trump went on, referring to prominent monuments in the capital city.
“It is something that is so special. It is intended to be like the one in Paris,” Trump remarked.
He added that the new arch will be significantly grander than the original version commissioned by Napoleon. “It blows it away. Surpasses it in every way.”
Chief's Alleged Response
According to the president, his domestic policy chief was stunned by a model of the triumphal arch the initial time he saw it.
“Vince came in one day and his eyes were apparently beaming,” the president said. “In fact, he couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. He saw it, and he desired to do that,” Trump said.
Speaking to Haley in person, the president stated, “That’s your number one task. There is nothing that can rival that.”
Context of Economic Worries
This focus arrives as many Americans are said to be coping with higher prices because of various policy decisions, such as tariffs on foreign products.
Additionally, with health insurance premiums for over 20 million Americans poised to increase significantly, some could disagree with the claim that constructing a large arch should be the main focus of the nation's top policy official.
